Deborah Bernau, 4th Grade Teacher
My name is Deborah Bernau, and I am a 4th Grade Teacher at St. Hubert Catholic School.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Justice from Lewis University in 1977, and I earned my Elementary Education Certification from the same university in 1992.  After hard work and dedication, I earned my Master of Education in Literacy from Judson University in 2012.  I have 25 years of education experience.

In 2006, I was a Nominee for a Golden Apple Award, and I was the Lights of Literacy Award Winner from Judson University in 2012.  I was a Featured Speaker at the Judson University Literacy in Motion Conference in June 2013, and I am an Ambassador at Judson University for Literacy Workshop & Conferences.  My current memberships are with the Illinois Reading Council – Fox Valley / Western Suburbs Regions and the International Reading Association.

I believe, in order to effectively meet the needs of the diverse learners in our classrooms today, we must constantly strive to be learners ourselves.  By furthering my education and continuing to grow professionally, I am learning the best practices in education which I can then apply within my classroom.  My commitment is to bring my students challenging, enriching, and innovative activities as we develop life-long learning skills together.

  Laurie Pierce, 4th Grade Teacher
My name is Laurie Pierce, and I am a 4th Grade teacher.  I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from DePaul University.  I have been teaching for 25 years.  Ten of those years have been at St. Hubert Catholic School.

I believe every classroom presents a unique community of learners with varied abilities and learning styles.  My role as an educator is to give the students the tools with which to cultivate their own gardens of knowledge so that every child can feel capable and experience success.

  James Vlaming, 5th Grade Teacher
My name is Jim Vlaming, and I am a 5th Grade teacher.  I have an undergraduate degree in Business and a Master of Science in Education both from DePaul University.  This is my fifth year teaching at St. Hubert Catholic School.

My philosophy on teaching is to treat each child as an individual both academically and personally.  I want my students to learn all of their subjects but also grow in their Catholic faith.  I will prepare my students for the academic, social and spiritual journey that they will encounter in their future.
